Blepharoplasty

Blepharoplasty

Whether it is for cosmetic improvement or vision improvement, blepharoplasty is one of the most commonly performed eye surgeries in the U.S. Sometimes called an “eye lift,” blepharoplasty refers to the removal of excess fat, skin and muscle above, around and below the eyes. As we age, the muscles in the eyelids weaken and skin stretches. This allows a pocket to form where excess fat may gather, causing drooping, sagging eyelids and bags underneath the eyes.

Not only can this make you look older, but in some cases, it can also affect vision. Sagging skin around the eyes can reduce peripheral vision and decrease the overall ability to safely navigate your environment. Removing the excess skin and fat eliminates these vision problems while helping you look younger and refreshed. Our Piedmont Eye Associates ophthalmologist can help decide if you are a good candidate for blepharoplasty.

What to Expect from Blepharoplasty

Traditional blepharoplasty is a safe, efficient surgery that uses a scalpel and other surgical instruments to cut along the eyelid and remove excess skin and fat. The surgeon then reshapes the skin around the eye, creating a healthy natural look.

Our Board Certified surgeons will explain the procedure as well as the potential risks and results before scheduling a blepharoplasty. For more information about this and other surgical procedures performed at Piedmont Eye Associates, contact our office online today or at (864) 583-5312.
